Q - How do I sign up for private lessons? Can I do that online?
A - You cannot sign up online for private lessons. An initial consultation with the teacher is required first. Please look through the instructor bios and then call The Perfect 5th to schedule a meeting with any teachers that you’d like to meet. You may also email them directly through the website.
Q - How much do lessons cost?
A - Instructors at The Perfect 5th charge from $20.00 to $30.00 for a half hour lesson. Please consult with your chosen instructor for further details or hourly rates.
Q - How do I sign up for a class if I’ve never taken any classes or lessons here before?
A - Click on any Register For Class button or just click here. This opens a registration window. Fill out at least the required fields (but it would be helpful if you complete as much as possible). Fill in the student’s info – if you are the student, re-enter your name here. Then you can click the “Search” button and see what classes are available. Click the class you want and then complete the rest of the registration form.
Q - How do I sign up for a class if I am already taking private lessons (or I already have an account because I’ve previously registered or have taken an earlier class)?
A - Click on the My Account link and sign in. (Alternately, click on any Register For Class button, then click on “Already a customer? Click here to login.”) Then click the Registration tab and in the drop-down box for location, select “all.” Here you can select from the list of available classes. Click and follow the instructions.
Q - I’m trying to register for a class, but keep getting the message “Only families/accounts that have a student currently enrolled may register for a class.” This seems counter-intuitive (or kinda silly).
A - Agreed! But we don’t make up the rules, we just pay for the software. This happens because the system has you listed as “inactive” if you’re not taking private lessons or the last class you signed up for is now over. Just give us a quick call or email and we will reset your account to “active” immediately (this gets reset overnight, so be sure to register for that class the same day).
Q - Is my credit card information secure?
A - Yes. If you enter your credit card info on our site, no one at The Perfect 5th will ever see all of the detail.
Q - Do your teachers use standard method books?
A - All of our teachers have created their own curriculum based on …. Anyone can teach (or “follow instructions”) out of the standard Mel Bay method books. All of our instructors are accomplished musicians and teachers who have their own tested methods.
Q - What age can my daughter/son start lessons?
A - We usually like to start private vocal lessons at age 10 and guitar at age 8. These are general recommendations, though, as there are exceptions and other options available. Younger vocal students (8+) can do well in our group vocal classes, and guitar students younger than 8 can often start with a 3/4 size instrument. Please contact us for a free evaluation if you'd like to start your child at a younger than recommended age.
Other options for young (under 8) students would be piano, ukulele and flute (with our KinderFLute program).
