Chad Smith's Summary

Chad Smith is a professional trumpeter and educator. He is also a decade‐long member of the78th United States Army Reserve Band stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey.

At the age of 9, Chad was taken by the sound of the trumpet and knew that he wanted to play—picking up a trumpet then and not putting it down since. Playing his way through grade school and undergrad at West Chester University, he played in the marching band, symphonic band and numerous other small ensembles. In his time at WCU, Chad studied under Dr. Kenneth Laudermilch.

Out of college, Chad was a music educator in the Philadelphia area for five years prior to joining the United States Army Reserve as a bugler fort he 78th Army Band. He is actively serving as a reservist today; daily playing “Taps” graveside for Military Funeral Honors.

Chad has used his musical talents throughout Mid‐Atlantic states playing trumpet and or French horn at numerous venues. He has played in the orchestra pit for theatrical productions such as: Sound of Music, Romance Romance, Rags, Sweeney Todd, West Side Story and forthcoming‐ Mary Poppins. He also performed for two years with the Central Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra. Chad has been afforded the opportunity to play in many venues including Heinz Chapel, Pittsburgh, PA and Citizens Bank Ballpark, Philadelphia, PA. He has also been invited to play for numerous churches in and around the mid‐state.

Chad’s love of brass has been influenced by some of the greats: Stan Kenton, Maynard Fergusson, Wynton Marsalis, Harry James and Maurice Andrè. When he’s not focused on music, he can be found spending time with his wife, Sarah and sons, Elijah and Ezra.
